About Dr. Ramin Fathi
Board-Certified Dermatologist and Fellowship-Trained Mohs Surgeon
Dr. Ramin Fathi is the founder and director of Phoenix Surgical Dermatology Group, where he set out to provide world-class dermatologic care to the people of Arizona. His vision is simple but uncompromising: cutting-edge medicine delivered by a team dedicated to excellence, compassion, and a welcoming patient experience.
Originally from Chicago, IL, Dr. Fathi graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University with a degree in accounting before earning his medical degree at Rush Medical College, where he graduated at the top of his class and was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.
He completed his transitional year internship at the
Colorado Health Foundation in Denver, CO, followed by dermatology residency at the University of Colorado Denver, where he was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society for excellence in clinical care, leadership, and service. He then completed an intensive fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology at the
University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX, where he received advanced training in skin cancer surgery and complex reconstruction. While there, he was honored with the Resident Teaching Award for his commitment to educating future physicians.
Today, Dr. Fathi is recognized nationally as a leader in dermatologic surgery. He serves as the Scientific Program Chair for the American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS) 2025 Annual Meeting and is a frequent invited speaker at the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), and ACMS annual meetings. His expertise spans surgical innovation, skin cancer management, complex facial reconstruction, and patient experience in dermatology.
In addition to leading his practice, Dr. Fathi holds faculty appointments at Mayo Clinic Arizona, Midwestern University, and Creighton University School of Medicine, where he trains medical students, residents, and fellows. His peers have voted him Top Doctor in Phoenix Magazine multiple years in a row, including the top vote-getter in 2025 for dermatologists.

A Leader Amongst Peers
Dr. Fathi has written more than 30 peer-reviewed scientific papers and several book chapters and has spoken at multiple national meetings. He is a member and has held committee positions in the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery. He has represented the American College of Mohs Surgery on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. advocating for lower drug prices, patient access to care, and overall improvement in the healthcare system. Dr. Fathi is board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology and is a Fellow of the American College of Mohs Surgery. He currently serves as the chairman of the Public Relations Committee of the American College of Mohs Surgery. Dr. Fathi is also an Assistant Professor of Dermatology at the Mayo Clinic, where he performs Mohs surgery and teaches resident physicians weekly.
Dr. Fathi’s Life Outside the Office
When he is away from the office, Dr. Fathi enjoys staying active with tennis, golf, chess and snowboarding. He also enjoys traveling, experimenting in the kitchen and spending time with his daughter (Jordan), newborn son (Cameron), his dog (Scottie), and his wife (Elika), who is also a board-certified dermatologist.
