Dr. Ramin Fathi is the founder and director of Phoenix Surgical Dermatology Group, where he set out to provide top-notch dermatological care to Arizonans. His vision is simple yet uncompromising: cutting-edge medicine delivered by a team dedicated to excellence, compassion, and a welcoming patient experience.
A native of Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Fathi graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University with a degree in accounting before earning his medical degree from Rush Medical College, where he graduated at the top of his class and was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.
He completed his transitional year internship at the Colorado Health Foundation in Denver, Colorado, and subsequently completed his dermatology residency at the University of Colorado at Denver, where he was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society for excellence in clinical care, leadership, and service. He then completed an intensive fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, where he received advanced training in skin cancer surgery and complex reconstruction. During his residency, he received the Resident Teaching Award for his commitment to educating future physicians.
Today, Dr. Fathi is nationally recognized as a leader in dermatologic surgery. He serves as the Scientific Program Chair for the 2025 Annual Meeting of the American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS) and is a frequent guest speaker at the annual meetings of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), and the ACMS. His expertise spans surgical innovation, skin cancer management, complex facial reconstruction, and the patient experience in dermatology.
In addition to running his practice, Dr. Fathi holds faculty positions at Mayo Clinic Arizona, Midwestern University, and Creighton University School of Medicine, where he trains medical students, residents, and fellows. His peers have voted him Phoenix Magazine's Top Doctor for several consecutive years, including being named the top dermatologist in 2025.

Dr. Fathi has written over 30 peer-reviewed scientific articles and several book chapters, and has spoken at multiple national meetings. He is a member and has held committee positions with the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. He has represented the American College of Mohs Surgery on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, advocating for drug price reductions, patient access to care, and overall healthcare system improvement. Dr. Fathi is board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology and is a Fellow of the American College of Mohs Surgery. He currently chairs the American College of Mohs Surgery Public Relations Committee. Dr. Fathi is also an Assistant Professor of Dermatology at the Mayo Clinic, where he performs Mohs surgery and teaches weekly lectures to medical residents.
